How To Photograph Fireworks
Currently at Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, TN, they are celebrating 6 weeks of “The Great American Summer” with extended hours and a fireworks show called “Dolly’s Nights of Many Colors”.
For a small theme park nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, I think they did a great job putting on a fireworks show.
The staff there was great in giving me information prior to the show, such as the best places to see the show, asking if I had a tripod, and while I was setting up my gear, one staff member pointed me in the proper direction. He also explained how they have to use extra power to get the fireworks higher than I would have expected. I ensured him that I would be able to get it with my wide-angle lens, but wouldn’t you know it? I wasn’t high enough when the show started.
After a quick adjustment, I was ready to capture as many shots as I could.
I’m happy with my shots that I got, although I wish I had a better foreground. I like this shot with the spectators in it, but I would really love to be in a spot that would highlight one of the many rides, like the Thunderhead Roller Coaster, or The Wild Eagle, or some other Dollywood icon.
