On this site in 1790’s, stood a two-story log structure that was used as classrooms for Blount College; pre-dating The University of Tennessee.

The Burwell Building, the building that you see here, was built in 1907 and until 1912 was the tallest building in Knoxville.

On October 1, 1928, “Knoxville’s Grand Entertainment Palace” opened its doors to show the movie “The Fleet’s In,” starring Clara Bow.

Today this building is best known as The Tennessee Theatre and is designated as “The Official State Theatre of Tennessee”.
