In the Cataloochee Valley, there are a herds of elk that have been reintroduced back into the Smoky Mountain National Park back in 2001. They started with 25 and they now have over 120 elk in the area.

Also in the area are a number of historic buildings that have been kept up quite nicely. This is the Caldwell House and it’s accessible from the main road. The house and the creek in front made for a nice picturesque image, but finding the elk in the area made it much better.
