On Top of Old Smoky

This morning my photog buddy, Jerry Denham, and I got up early, headed up to the top of the Smoky Mountains to catch the sunrise.

While this may sound like a simple task, it really wasn’t. We discussed last night how the weather was supposed to move out of the area over the evening, but when we met up this morning, the weather had other plans. But we decided to try our luck, and see what happened. Well, all the way to the top of the mountains, there was nothing but drizzle and darkness.

Just as we got to our parking spot we realized that luck was on our side. We still had some high clouds to deal with, but for the most part, it was not raining where we were. We ended up just above the clouds and that created a very nice sky to work with.

This particular shot was taken toward the end of our stay, just as the sun was becoming too bright.
